ROAD WARRIOR: Week Four
Faith • Hope • Joy
A 6-Week Journey of Scripture, Music, Ministry, Family & Friendship
The Holy Ministry of Rest
Scripture: Psalm 46:10 — “Be still, and know that I am God…”
Eventually, every road warrior has to come home. Not because the mission is finished. But because even faithful people need rest.
After miles of travel, ministry events, friendships, family time, book celebrations, and full days, I'm returning to Colorado for several weeks of rest. And I'm learning to see rest differently. Rest isn't quitting. Rest isn't laziness. Rest isn't losing momentum. Rest is part of the journey. Even Jesus stepped away from the crowds. Even Jesus made space for quiet.
So perhaps coming home isn't stepping away from ministry. Perhaps it is preparing your heart to return to it with renewed strength. There is a temptation, especially when we love what we do, to keep moving. Another invitation. Another project. Another trip. Another deadline. Another opportunity.
However, the body has limits. The mind needs quiet. The soul needs space. And sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is stop.
This season gives me permission to breathe. To reflect. To write. To pray. To enjoy home. To listen to music without thinking about the next destination. To simply be.
There is a difference between being productive and being fruitful. Sometimes productivity says, “Do more.” God may be saying, “Be still.” Rest gives us room to notice what exhaustion has been hiding. It gives us room to hear our own thoughts. It gives us room to pray without rushing. It gives us room to remember why we started. And it gives us room to receive.
The road will still be there. The invitations will still come. The work will still matter. But for a few weeks: I'm going home, and I'm going to let God refill the tank.
Perhaps you need permission to do the same. You don't have to earn rest. You don't have to apologize for needing it. And you don't have to call it failure. Sometimes rest is preparation for the next assignment.
🎶 WHAT’S ON MY FAITH PLAYLIST? Song of the Week: “I Thank God” — Housefires
Why it matters: Sometimes gratitude is exactly what the soul needs during a season of rest.
Your turn: What is God asking you to stop doing long enough to hear what He wants you to do next?
Same God. New Miles. Faith • Hope • Joy.
Until the next road… keep traveling with hope.
